In Portsmouth: Dondero School plans Lawn Fete on Sunday

PORTSMOUTH — Area families are invited to have some outdoor fun at Dondero Elementary School's Annual Lawn Fete on Sunday, June 12, including pony rides and a dunk tank.

Each year about 400 to 500 people attend, said organizer Jill Areson-Perkins.

"Although this is a fundraiser, it is also a Dondero tradition," she said. "It provides an afternoon of fun at a reasonable cost."

From noon to 3 p.m. children can play games and win prizes. This year, families will get the chance to dunk Dondero teachers and parents at the dunk tank. The cake walk will be back again this year, and each winner gets a cake. There will also be carnival games, including checking how fast sport fans can pitch a ball.

This year, organizers said there will also be pony rides as long as it does not rain.

Children will be able to get their face painted, play on a 16-foot slide or take turns in a bounce house. Hamburgers, hot dogs, ice cream and other refreshments will be available.

Games cost 50 cents to $3. There is no entrance fee.

"One of the best things is there is always something for the kids to enjoy," Areson-Perkins said.

The Portsmouth Fire Department will be providing tours of fire engines and ambulances on site.

The event, which will go on rain or shine, is open to the public.

Dondero School is located at 32 Van Buren Ave., Portsmouth. The event will be held on the outdoor fields. In case of rain, games will be moved inside the gymnasium.

Proceeds benefit the Dondero Parent-Teacher Association to support student activities.
