2011 Legg Mason Tennis Classic: Former champ James Blake joins field
James Blake, the 2002 Legg Mason Tennis Classic champion, will return to Washington’s hard-court tournament this summer, joining a field that includes fellow Americans Andy Roddick, Mardy Fish, Sam Querrey and John Isner.
Ranked No. 4 in the world in 2006, Blake, 31, has been slowed by injury the past two seasons but is on the cusp of returning to the top 100. Legg Mason officials announced Wednesday that they’ll grant Blake a wild-card entry, if needed, to ensure his participation in the July 30-Aug. 7 event at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Northwest Washington.
Blake’s triumph at the 2002 Legg Mason was the first of his 10 ATP singles titles. Others committed to the 2011 Legg Mason include No. 15 Viktor Troicki of Serbia, former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt and 2010 runner-up Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus.

Comcast SportsNet will broadcast six Washington Kastles matches live this summer as part of a marketing agreement unveiled Thursday.
Coverage begins with the Kastles’ July 5 opener, featuring Venus Williams, against the Kansas City Explorers at the team’s new Southeast waterfront venue, Kastles Stadium at the Wharf. The July 6 match at Philadelphia will also be aired live, as will the July 7 home match featuring Serena Williams against the Boston Lobsters. Coverage concludes with the Kastles’ July 20 season-finale at the New York Sportimes featuring Kim Clijsters and Martina Hingis.

The day’s activities will include a Military Enlistment ceremony, Honor Guard and Color Guard, in addition to a flag unfurling and physical fitness competitions.
