Solar Generation Facility Near Snowflake Under Consideration

Most people would agree that our world has become too dependent on low-carbon technologies burns gas greenhouse producers and other harmful emissions. Alternatively, companies seek to take advantage of methods such as wind and solar energy from the sun in renewable and clean energy.
Here in the Navajo County we have seen the Dry Lake II wind farm project to materialize, resulting in wind turbines dotting the horizon mass along the roads leading from the Holbrook Snowflake and Heber.The finished product was not easy, as area residents concerned about potential health problems and reduced land values expressed their opposition to the project.
Now Aurora Solar will travel before the Navajo County Planning and Zoning Commission Thursday, August 18, requesting a special use permit for the Dry Lake II Solar, a photovoltaic or solar power generating facilities in d a portion of the Dry Lake Wind Farm II. It is no coincidence that the two operations would close as Aurora Solar is a wholly owned subsidiary of Iberdrola Renewables, the company that owns the wind farm.
According to business developer of the project, Jen Bradford, is the first attempt by Iberdrola to mix the two concepts of wind and solar energy for optimal use of the elements.
Aurora Solar plans to build the solar system about 399 acres located four miles north of Snowflake, and expects to produce up to 50 megawatts of renewable energy if the permit is approved. Why the company believes that the area is suitable for solar power is evident. Relatively flat topography, and plenty of sunshine and intense solar radiation, to fulfill the requirements for a successful operation.
The request for consideration by the Planning and Zoning Commission states that the area is currently zoned for rural areas 20, which is consistent with the application until the company receives the special use permit. If approved, the site will consist of solar units called "blocks". A block typically extends about 140 feet from north to south and 300 feet from east to west. Each block should contain about 18 solar power units Tracker supported on pier foundations driven. Each of these units tracker, in turn, to support 40 to 100 or more solar panels.
During the day, the tracker units pivot to allow solar panels to track the sun as it moves across the sky. With solar panels, the total height of the table is no more than about six feet.
