Sinead O'Connor barely recognisable in long hair and mumsy trouser-suit
It's hard to believe this is the same woman who once declared she would never be without a head of shaven hair.
Sinead O'Connor became renowned for having a bald head after she stared into the camera and sang the now iconic song, Nothing Compares 2 U.
But the Irish singer was almost unrecognisable and looked dowdy as she performed at the Manchester International Festival Pavilion Theatre on Friday.
For most of her career she's stuck to having minimal hair and once even insisted she would continue to shave her head until old age.
The mother-of-four said: 'I don't feel like me unless I have my hair shaved. So even when I'm an old lady I'm going to have it.'
Sinead rose to fame following the release of her 1990 cover of the Prince song Nothing Compares 2 U and its accompanying video.
The music video shows a close-up of her face as she sings the song's lyrics and towards the end of the performance tears roll down her cheeks.
She claims the lyric 'All the flowers that you planted, Mama in the back yard, All died when you went away' made her cry because of the complex relationship she had with her late mother.
The clip went on to win Best Video at the 1990 MTV Video Music Awards, the first video by a female artist to win in this category.
She is also an outspoken critic on the Vatican and once tore up a photograph of Pope John Paul II on Saturday Night Live more than 20 years ago.
More recently she hit out at Pope Benedict XVI after he wrote a pastoral letter of apology relating to decades of sexual abuse against children by priests in Ireland.
