WHILE rumours that Prince Albert of Monaco fathered a love child while courting South African swimming star Charlene Wittstock continue, the newly married couple arrived in Durban amid tight security yesterday.

The prince and his new bride flew into King Shaka International Airport at 10am yesterday and were promptly whisked off to the Oyster Box Hotel in Umhlanga.

The couple was welcomed to KwaZulu-Natal by Premier Zweli Mkhize and eThekwini mayor James Nxumalo.

Law enforcement agencies kept a sharp eye out for the couple and kept curious onlookers away. The hawk-eyed police made sure the royal couple entered their hotel with the least amount of exposure.

The moment the royal couple went in the hotel doors were closed to the public.

In the hotel's reception area a portrait of the royal couple was prominently displayed next to Monaco's flag.

Security guards refused people entry and said the hotel was closed for the day as it was hosting very important guests. Several guests who had arrived for lunch said they were turned away.

According to the hotel's media officer, Joan Hayes, the media was "not allowed" as requested by the couple.

"The couple asked us to make their stay as private as possible. We are following their orders," Hayes said.

The couple had lunch at the hotel and then made their way to Durban's International Convention Centre for an International Olympic Committee meeting.

President Jacob Zuma welcomed the couple to the meeting and joked that the prince still had to pay ilobolo for his South African bride.

The couple, who tied the knot in a religious ceremony on Saturday, are scheduled to host friends and local dignitaries at a cocktail evening at the hotel tomorrow.

- News reports from France have reported that Prince Albert was to undergo DNA tests after claims that he had fathered another child out of wedlock - some reports even said two children with two different women.
