Really Vancouver? Losers Deserve To Lose! | Phoenix Arizona Sports ...

Damn it!

I told myself I would retire from commenting on our friends up north, but I can’t.

My experience during the Phoenix Coyotes saga with Winnipeg was bad enough, but after what I witnessed last night in Vancouver as well as the pictures this morning, I have to vent.

If you missed it, rioting Vancouver Canuck hockey fans overturned vehicles and set them ablaze, broke store and hotel windows and set several small fires all after losing Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals to the Boston Bruins.

The police declared an area of downtown an illegal assembly zone.

Bonfires were lit on street corners as groups of people, many wearing Canucks jerseys, picked up and threw temporary fencing at police in riot gear.

Really Vancouver?

According to King 5 News,Vancouver Police tweeted, “So sad watching our Vancouver Police Department cars on fire and how quickly people can turn from law abiding to law breaking.”

The police really struggled to contain the situation.  You would’ve thought they learned enough from the last time the Canucks lost in the Stanley Cup (1994).

What was interesting to me was watching all the drama take place through social media. As the riots in the streets of Vancouver grew more serious by every minute, people went to social media to try to make some order from the chaos.

At one point even the Vancouver PD was using Twitter to try to get the word out.

“So sad watching our #VPD cars on fire and how quickly people can turn from law abiding to law breaking.”

A Facebook event urged Vancouver citizens to help clean up the mess from the streets of the city.

“Once the embarrassing rioting has ended in Vancouver let’s all show the world what Vancouver is really about by helping rebuild and clean up so it is better than it was before,” the organizers of the event urge.

Shame on you Vancouver. Losers deserve to lose!

What’s really sad is that Vancouver is coming off hosting an incredible Winter Olympics, where the country won the Gold Medal in hockey. Downtown Vancouver was peaceful and joyous. No problems. The city and country was proud. That’s all flushed down the toliet now.  You’re smarter than that!

By the way, what’s interesting is that from reports some shops had boarded their windows before the game, fearing trouble. They knew it was coming!

Here are some photos of riots plus some links to the video.
