Motorcycle Show Draws Thousands

The 8th Annual “Waves of Thunder” motorcycle show concluded last night in Kittanning’s Riverfront Park.

The show is an annual fundraiser for Kittanning Hose Company #1 fire department.

Assistant Fire Chief and Committee Chair Kevin Kline said the fundraiser helps with a lot of department expenses throughout the year.

“The Waves of Thunder helps pay some of the general expenses of the fire department – some of our utilities, the truck payment on the pumper truck and in-part, the building payment – so it’s very necessary that we raise the money,” Kline said.

Over 200 bikers traveled to attend the show on old and new vintage models that had crowds swooning and admiring each one.

“This is something we come into every year when they have it. It’s a good time in here,” he said. 

Schall described the motorcycle he was riding.

 “It’s a 2008 Harley Ultra Classic with a  Lehman Conversion Trike Kit on it. I put a lot of miles on it. I have had this one three years. I just had the custom paint done it last year. It takes a little bit of time adding things here and there.”

Not everyone was admiring the motorcycles. Nick Klimkowicz from Bethel Township took advantage of the warm temperatures, low humidity, and gentle breeze to fish upstream from the music.

“I am up here with my family on the boat and figured I would pass some time. I’m just tagging along. I’m listening to music too though. It’s all good,” he said.

Influenced by early 70′s rock and roll, “The Remedy”, a three piece band from the Kittanning/Ford City area, was on hand Sunday afternoon to play blues-based rock. Members are talented, dedicated musicians who have been playing music for many years. The group has recorded an album entitled ”Wild Thin Mercury”.

Although the weekend concluded last night around 8PM, Kline said that he and his fellow fire fighters and busy already planning for next year’s event, which he secretly promised would be bigger and better than ever.
