Deception with Keith Barry finale reviewed
Below is a review of the fourth episode of season one of Deception with Keith Barry, aired on June 16, 2011 ( 6/16/2011). The episode is the last of the season (likely the series).
Continuing with his ongoing theme, Keith claims to be able to unleash his amazing psychological powers on the simpletons of the streets. This time, his victims are woman. That's right, Keith Barry shows you how he can pick up chicks using mentalism. In addition, he starts the episode by promising to share some of his pick-up secrets throughout the show.
In the first segment, Keith Barry shows us how he can guess a girl's phone number at a bar by simply looking at her. While he claims that he could do this on any girl at any bar, there is a distinct feeling of pre-arrangement throughout the segment. Although this is not an accusation that he is using confederates or stooges, it seems just as unlikely that he is simply guessing ten-digit phone numbers using deep psychological principles.
He follows that by giving advice on using proper body language. There was some cool information there, but very limited and not nearly as groundbreaking as one would hope from a man of such prowess. He then guessed which woman would select which men for a second date at a speed dating event.
Next, some thievery. He asks a man to cover a watch he's wearing, and the guy is unable to tell specific details of his watch. Derren Brown did this trick VERBATIM on his television show several years ago. Disappointing.
More thievery after. He tests the attention of male volunteers by switching elements around them during a supposed blind date that they thought they were set up on. The outfit of their date was changed, then the woman herself was different after excusing herself for a quick trip to the restroom. Again, material strikingly similar to Derren's.
After the commercial break, he stops random women on the street and asks them to think of a flower. He then produces the flower they were thinking of. That is followed up by some mingling with singles in a bar and some simple mind reading tricks. Next he finds a couple on the street, and does an old mentalism bit where he has one person close their eyes, the other keep them open, then he taps or touches the person with the eyes open. The one with the eyes closed feels the touch.
After yet another commercial break, Keith Barry takes a volunteer and begins to set up the finale. The man, a person struggling with dating, is about to go through a life-changing event, according to Barry. He sets up an 'experiment' to help the man get over his indecisiveness. The trick is that, according to Keith Barry, on top of a platform before them are four paper doors in its floor. Under three of the doors are deadly unpleasantry's. Only one door is safe to fall through. The volunteer selects a door without any advice or hints from Barry. He walks up to it, and falls backwards through the paper cover. He falls onto a soft mattress under the doo, where the others have spikes, knives and blades.

Notice that when he is recounting details he is looking slightly down and to the right. When you are trying to recall details you look up and to the left to access the part of the brain where "memory" is stored. When you are looking slightly down and to the right, you are accessing the part of the brain where "Imagination" is created. He starts the interview nodding his head in a "Yes" motion. He is very "aware" and wants to emphasize that what is being said is true. When asked what was his reaction (feeling) about the picture he launches into "That's him", and proceeds to express all the reasons why he knows it's him, and how there is no doubt. He is going out of his way to try to convince his audience, when the question was not "How do you know" but "What was your reaction". Notice when he says "absolutely certain it was him" he shakes his head in the "NO" motion (involuntarily). Obama's arms and hands arm crossing his body, and his legs are crossed. This is considered a defensive posture. A first year FBI interrogator would tell you that this behavior is "deceptive" to say the least.
