The Talawanda girls basketball program will hold a camp for girls entering fifth through ninth grades with coach Kim Richter from 9 a.m. to noon June 27-30 at Talawanda Middle School. Cost is $50 by June 17, or $60 after that date. To register, call (513) 273-3200.
Swap Days at Hueston Woods June 18-19
The Preble County Chapter of the Ohio Horseman’s Council is having a two-day swap event. The swap days are Saturday and Sunday, June 18-19 at the Hueston Woods horseman’s camp. The camp is located on Four Mile Road, off Ohio 177. Hours at 8 a.m. to dark each day. There is no cost for admission.

The Reily Founders Day Celebration will be held June 18. A parade will begin at 10 a.m. and the nationally acclaimed Southern Singers and Drummers will give four performances.
In addition, these groups will be there.
•The ninth Kentucky Confederate Infantry Civil War group. They also will be doing a fire gun salute at The Bunker Hill Cemetery at 4 p.m. in honor of the 150th anniversary of The Civil War.
• The Ohio Valley Civil War Association.
•Reily and Oxford townships amateur Ham radio Operators.
•The Blue River and Talawanda Long Rifles.
Lions Club golf outing June 27
The Oxford Lions Club Golf Outing will be held June 27 at Browns Run Country Club in Middletown. Register now through the day of event. Cost is $125 per golfer, and includes green fee, golf cart, lunch and dinner, and more. Event benefits local students. To register, call Buzz Green at (513) 769-0840.
Ice cream social marks union services June 19
Oxford Presbyterian and Oxford United Methodist Churches Union Services will continue this year with the congregations worshipping together at 10 a.m. On Sunday, June 19, worship will be at the Oxford Presbyterian Church with Pastors Don Dixon and Karen Montgomery from the Methodist church preaching.
The traditional ice cream social marking the first Sunday of Union Services will be held in the courtyard following worship.
Picnic, fundraiser on June 23
The Oxford Seniors Community Adult Day Service will hold a family picnic and fundraiser from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Thursday, June 23. It will be held at the day service which is located in the Faith Lutheran Church, 420 S. Campus Aven. The menu includes hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, baked beans, coleslaw and dessert. Tickets are available prior to the event or at the door. Tickets for Adults are $7 and for children 5 and under are $3. For more information, call (513) 523-0464.

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP) hosted the 26th Annual National Dance Educators Convention Workshop on May 10-13 held at the university gymnasium.
National Commission on Culture and the Arts, National Commission on Dance Head Ms. Shirley Halili-Cruz was the keynote speaker who spoke on the theme, “Dance Preservation and Dissemination: A Continuing Challenge to Leadership in Education.” In her address, she challenged the educators before her to preserve, at the same time, create awareness and appreciation for the dances.
Vice President for Student Services Dr. Juan C. Birion as chair of the PUP Preparatory Committee of the workshop disclosed that the dance convention workshop aims to put up a forum for the participants to discuss and share the ideas on how dance as a culture of heritage can help in raising the quality of education.
He also pointed out that participants of the mentioned activity are supervisors, administrators, elementary, secondary and tertiary teachers, dance instructors, dance directors and dance enthusiasts from various parts of the country.
An estimated 300 participants during the opening day of the four-day event attended the annual convention headed Dr. Carmen T. Andim, president of the Dance Education Association of the Philippines, Inc. (DEAPI).
The following sessions took place in the four-day affair: Day 1 – The Relevance of Dance Ethnology Research by Dr. Carmen T. Andin; The Hidden Meanings of Dance Movements by Dr. Edith M. Galing; Challenges in Dance Leadership by Dr. Rhoda Beth M. Santos; Ethnic Identity of Cordillera Dances by Dr. Rose Mary R. Estoesta; and Basic Dance Steps and Movements by Dr. Priscilla L. Miñas. The second day was divided into three parts: A. Dance Workshop (continuation from Day 1) presided by Ms. Carmencita Debura F. Paz; B. Lecture-Demonstration on Ethnic Dances – Dulang by Mr. Benjamin Abarca, Pinnanyu-an by Dr. Angelica O. Danguilan, Taliduma by Ms. Amelia C. Lacerna, and Tangunggo by Prof. Flora M. Garcia; and C. Folk Dances.
The third day activities were workshop proper on folk dances and ballroom dancing. Review of dances headed by Mr. Conrado Contreras Jr. and Prof. Jesus U. Ranchez were facilitated in the morning of the workshop’s last day.
The convention culminated with the announcement of election results for the new set of DEAPI officers, and the awarding of the certificates and hand-outs. Each of the participants paid Php 2,000 as registration fee which covered the honoraria for the resource speakers and dance instructors, hand-outs, CPs, certificates and other expenses.
