On many cars is a low pressure cutoff switch that saves the AC compressor from running when the refrigerant supply gets low(There is oil as well as refrigerant inside the AC system...This saves the compressor bearings from breaking down). it also stops the cooling fans on the radiator from running. I would go to WALMART,get a 12 oz can of refrigerant and then go to Advance Auto and get a CAN TAP and supply hose and add a can of the refrigerant(R134a) to the system at the low side port. On the Honda Accord this will be on the big line where the little plastic cover is marked with an L... Do this with the car running and the AC system running.BE CAREFUL>>>NO LOOSE CLOTHES<HAIR <OR JEWELERY HANGING LOOSE.This should fix it. If it does not....take it to Grease Monkey and have them change out the old oil and top off the refrigerant in the system...Ask for a firm price up front. If this doesnn't do it there may be a clog somewhere in the system...I'll check back...DAVE...PS Please excuse the typos...Hehe...It's late........BTW ...Wal Mart charges $11-$12 for a simple can of refrigerant...Advance charges $18 -19....Advance charges $35 for a super can of refrigerant(19 oz.that has a few ounces of oil or stop leak in it.) The exact can goes for $21 at Wal Mart....I would not use the cans with the stopleak additive because this stuff is designed to gel up when air hits it it will stop a good compressor and ruin it as well as the heat exchangers in the system If you are leaking change out the o ring or hose that is bad or get some one to do it for you. Too much oil in a system will shut it down too. Before adding anything, have the pressures (pro w/ manifold set) checked and observe whether both cooling fans are running when compressor engages. If both cooling fans are not running, you will get exactly your symptoms at low speeds/stop/go; poor/no cooling and engine may overheat. There may be nothing wrong w/ AC system itself, only the cooling fans. I suddenly smell a Pro with a manifold set lurking in the shadows. If all of us had the disposable income to hire a Pro when these things occur ...we would not be looking for answers in sites like this. I watched a 60 MINUTES episode once where 3 PROS with manifold sets were called to check an AC system. They watched on a hidden camera while all 3 just sat around and added a pound or so of refrigerant to the system...they put so much in... it blew out of a joint in the line.
